Professional Development & Required Trainings

Child Care Council of Kentucky helps providers meet state requirements by offering the trainings and certifications needed to stay compliant and confident in their roles. 

Orientation for Early Care and Education Professionals

This mandatory 6-hour online training covers:


  • Health, Safety, & Sanitation (2 hours)
  • Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (1 hour)
  • Recommended Practices in Early Care & Education (3 hours)


All child care employees in Kentucky must complete this training within their first 90 days of employment. Successful completion fulfills the Division of Child Care’s (DCC) regulatory requirement for First Aid and CPR training.

Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma

Protect children by recognizing the signs.
Required by House Bill 285 and KRS 199.986 / 922 KAR 2:090, this course covers:


  • Statistics on abusive head trauma
  • Identifying normal vs. abnormal bruising using TEN-4 FACES-p
  • Anatomy of the infant head and brain
  • Reporting requirements and documentation
  • Risk factors in families and caregivers
  • Safe sleep practices and environments

Commonwealth Child Care Credential

(CCCC)

Build your foundation in early childhood education.

Awarded to professionals who complete 60 hours of approved instruction, our CCCC course is:


  • Offered year-round
  • Online and self-paced
  • Typically completed in 13 weeks

Child Development Associate (CDA)

Advance your career with a nationally recognized credential.

The
CDA credential, administered by the Council for Professional Recognition, is a key step in your professional journey. Our program is:

  • Available year-round
  • Online and self-paced
  • Typically completed in 13 weeks

Scholarships Available.

Scholarships are available for both the Commonwealth Child Care Credential and the Child Development Associate courses to help you achieve your goals without financial barriers. Explore the resources below.

Kentucky Family Guide

Kentucky has revised Early Childhood Standards for professionals and a new Family Guide to go along with them. In this session, families will learn how they too can use the standards while interacting with their children at home. Parents are the first and most important teachers children have and we want to enhance the opportunities families have to prepare their children for kindergarten.

Tips for Parents Managing Stress

Learning to manage stress can give you the patience, energy and perspective to be the parent you want to be. And it will pay dividends for your health and ability to function well. In this session we will learn healthy tips for stress management!
